French Chair and Head of the Department of Neurosurgery | Welcome to the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of MinnesotaThe Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Minnesota and its clinical arm, UMPhysicians Neurosurgery, offer outstanding neurosurgical patient care, excellent neurosurgical education and groundbreaking research into some of the most difficult problems facing neurosurgical patients today. Our clinical practice is carried out through University of Minnesota Physicians. This 10 physician neurosurgical practice is the largest neurosurgical group in the Twin Cities. We provide services at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, University of Minnesota Amplatz Children's Hospital, Fairview Southdale Hospital, Minneapolis Veteran's Administration Medical Center and Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital. Our neurosurgeons cover the entire spectrum of neurosurgical practice from the most common conditions neurosurgeons treat to the most complex subspecialty problems. Our educational programs in neurosurgery are focused on medical students and resident neurosurgeons. The program has produced many outstanding practitioners of neurosurgery who are leaders in their communities and many academic neurosurgeons who have led neurosurgical departments throughout the country. Our research programs are focused on better understanding of deep brain stimulation, novel cell-based therapies for recovery from brain and spinal cord injury, innovative treatments for brain tumors and bioengineering of CSF absorbtion pathways.
