John Ohlfest, Ph.D.

Dr. Ohlfest received his undergraduate degree from Iowa State University in biology and his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in genetics, molecular and cellular biology with an emphasis in gene therapy.  He is currently an Assistant Professor and Director of the Gene Therapy Program in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Ohlfest is an active member of the American Society of Gene Therapy (ASGT).  National Institutes of Health awarded Dr. Ohlfest with the NIH Cancer Biology Training Grant from 2002 - 2004.

Dr. Ohlfest’s Ph.D. research experience focused on developing plasmid-based vectors for gene therapy.  In these studies, mouse models of glioblastoma and Hemophilia A were treated providing proof of principle that non-viral vectors show promise for application to human gene therapy.
