Dr. Rockswold is chief of the Neurosurgical Services at Hennepin County Medical Center and Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Minnesota. He received his M.D. and Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota Medical School where he also completed his neurosurgical residency.  In addition to his academic career, Dr. Rockswold has been a memeber of Neurosurgical Associates, Ltd., a large private practice neurosurgical group based at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, for 24 years where he served as president from 1998 to 2001. He is also past president of the Minnesota Neurosurgical Society.

Dr. Rockswold has had a longstanding clinical and research interest in traumatic brain injury. He is currently the principal investigator of an RO-1 research grant from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke entitled, "Hyperbaric and Normobaric Oxygen in Severe Brain Injury."
