In the News

Angie Balkcum has retired after 38 years of service to the Department of Neurosurgery. During her tenure, Balkcum served 5 department heads, 87 residents, innumerable faculty and departmental employees.

Adnan Qureshi, M.D., was featured in a terrific WCCO-TV story about how intracranial angioplasty is used to prevent or treat stroke. A West Virginia man traveled to University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, for treatment, after his own doctors told him there was nothing they could do about his recurring "mini-strokes." The patient now says Dr. Qureshi saved his life.

Adnan Qureshi, M.D. and Farhan Siddiq, M.D., were quoted in various articles including the Star Tribune, ABC News, U.S. News & World Report, the Pioneer Press, the Globe and Mail, and WebMD about their research that found that people who own a cat are less likely to die from a heart attack. The Stroke Institute was also mentioned.
