Training Programs


 

As one of the nation's leading academic centers in neurosurgery, the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Minnesota is committed to training the neurosurgeons of tomorrow.  This highly-specialized program includes comprehensive clinical training and training in research.

The Neurosurgery Residency Program was established in 1937 and has trained over 100 neurosurgeons. On average two new residents are accepted into the Neurosurgery Residency Program each year.

Research Program
In addition to clinical training in neurosurgery, residents receive basic training in a variety of disciplines including laboratory and clinical research.
     Gene Therapy
     Stem Cell Therapy
     Immunotherapy and Cancer Vaccines
     Brain Tumor Stem Cells and Cancer Biology

With appropriate planning, residents can also satisfy the requirements for masters or Ph.D. dgrees in appropriate fields through the University of Minnesota Graduate School or School of Public Health.
